Garganta de Loriga adventure

Today we had a great adventure: 2 StarNatura guides + 20 very nice german people did it! We climbed Garganta de Loriga. We started our journey in Loriga's beach and finish it near Torre, the highest point in Continental Portugal.

The trek in numberes:

• 9 km walk from Loriga to Torre, up


• 1000 m level achivement - we started at 800 m high and finished at 1800 m


• 6 hour tour with time to do everything (from lunch to photos)

Feira Regional do Queijo da Serra da Estrela

É já no inicio de Março, mais concretamente, dia 05 e este ano será em Seia. A Feira do Queijo da Serra resulta de uma parceria entre as câmaras de Seia, Gouveia e Fornos de Algodres. É no Sábado de carnaval, e na 3ª feira (dia 08) é feriado.
A serra está à vossa espera para este fim-de-semana ... aumentado.

We are in Serra da Estrela!

Hi there! StarNatura now is in Seia, closer to serra da Estrela. Here you can find all kind of tradicional handcraft, typical food and wines. We still want to promote Fornos de Algodres, but now we can also make our trekkings and visits here, in Seia and in the Serra da Estrela. Merry Christmas and Happy 2011!

Several kinds of tours

Some important notes:
The time periods shown are based on the trekking activity. Any itinerary can be done by car, changing considerably its duration;
It’s possible to combine more than one tour per day, if that is the wish of the participant. It is also possible to divide the routes of a day in two half-days;
Any tour needs a pre-registration, with payment of 25% of the total;
Experiences vary between implementation and learning the art of tin, pottery, lace and embroidery, fabric paint, and fabric of bread, olive oil, cheese and sausage, etc. These can be combined with any roadmap, but is subject to the availability of professionals in each activity and the time of year in which (some) are performed;
There is the possibility of including a pic-nic lunch in any tour, by paying an additional € 5.50;
For larger groups, it is possible to have an expert archaeologist. (Schedule at least one month in advance)

Roman Tour
Duration: Half day (morning or afternoon)
We will visit some of the Roman ruins in the region.
Includes visit to the Center of Historical and Archaeological Interpretation of Fornos de Algodres (CIHAFA)

the Mills tour
Duration: 1 day
We will visit some of the existing mills in the county.
Includes visit to the Center of Historical and Archaeological Interpretation of Fornos de Algodres (CIHAFA)

Prehistoric tour
Duration: 1 day
We will visit some of the prehistoric remains in the region, such as dolmens and forts.
Includes visit to the Center of Historical and Archaeological Interpretation of Fornos de Algodres (CIHAFA)

Medieval tour
Duration: 2 full days
We visit the vast collection of medieval vestiges that exist in the region, such as some of the largest concentrations of non-anthropomorphic graves of the country.
Includes visit to the Center of Historical and Archaeological Interpretation of Fornos de Algodres (CIHAFA)

historic centers tour
Duration: 1 day
We will visit the historic centers of Algodres, Fornos de Algodres, Infias, Figueiró da Granja, Sobral Pichorro and Maceira.
Includes visit to the Center of Historical and Archaeological Interpretation of Fornos de Algodres (CIHAFA)

Mushrooms tour - under construction

Olive oil tour

Duration: 1 day
We will visit some wineries, and to observe the making of olive oil. Includes proof of olive oil and ricoitas (typical brunch).
Subject to availability of mills and the time of the year, as well as the quantity of olives collected. Normally this tour is done between November and March

Cheese tour
Duration: 1 day
We will visit some dairies, and to observe the making of cheese. Includes proof of cheese from Serra da Estrela.
Subject to availability of dairies and the time of year.

Water and wind Mills
Duration: 1 day
We will visit four water mills and one wind mill.

Rout of the artisans
Duration: half-day
We visit the artisans in their workplaces and to experience his art. Includes tin, pottery, embroidery and painting fabric.
Subject to availability of the artists.

Pilgrimage of the sheep:
Duration: not applied.
Subject to the dates of the festivities where this festival is held.

Route of ants:
Duration: half-day
Trekking that links Maceira to the Fraga da Pena. The ending place is one of the most significant vestiges of the Bronze Age.
